1. If in between sizes, what should I do?
Give'r gloves and mittens are a great way to provide warmth to your hands during the winter. However, finding the right glove size can be tricky, especially if you're in between sizes. That's why we recommend sizing up if you're not sure what glove or mitten size to get. A larger size in our Classic Give'r Mittens will give you a little more room to work with, and will help ensure a comfortable fit.
2. On first wear, my mittens are snug - is this normal?
Yes! The Classic Mittens are designed to be snug at first, as they'll begin breaking in on first use. The insulation will pack out and begin to fully fill the leather outer shell. The leather itself will begin to break in and form to your individual hands. The more they're used, the better they'll fit as they become an extension of your hand and fingers. To expedite the break-in process, check out The Oven Method video above!
3. How often should I re-wax my Classic Give'r Mittens?
Re-waxing needs vary greatly from person to person. Some people never apply a new wax coating to their Give'r gloves and mittens at all and are completely fine, while others re-wax every season to add extra weatherproofing before being outside a lot. The more you use 'em, the more you should re-wax 'em — especially if you're doing abrasive tasks like handling barbed wire or a burning log. Doing it yourself? Any all-natural beeswax (Sno Seal works great) will do just fine!
4. How do I re-wax my Give'r Mittens?
The process of re-waxing your Give'r mittens is remarkably simple. First, make sure the leather mittens are clean and free of any dirt or debris. Then, heat up your natural beeswax. You can do this by microwaving the beeswax for a few seconds, or by melting it over a stovetop. Be careful not to overheat the wax, or it could damage the mittens. If using alternative products like Nik-wax or Sno-Seal, follow specific product instructions.
Warm your clean mittens in an oven, recommended "Bake" setting at ~180-190 degrees for 3-4 minutes. Once the beeswax is melted/warm, apply it liberally to the heated leather mittens (wearing the mittens while applying is best way to execute!). You may want to use a brush to help distribute the wax coating evenly. Let the Classic mittens sit for a few minutes so the wax can soak in. Then, buff them with a cloth to remove any excess beeswax. You can then re-heat the mittens in the oven, and repeat as needed to achieve your desired result!
That's it! Your leather mittens should now be nice and shiny, and they'll be protected from the elements.
5. What kinds of activities can I use the Give'r Classic Mittens for?
The Classic Give'r Mitten is perfect for a wide range of activities. Made from durable leather, these winter mittens will keep your hands warm and protected from the elements; rain or shine. They're perfect for activities like hiking, riding bikes, downhill skiing, snow shoveling or even building a campfire. Plus, the heartily insulated and comfortable design means you can wear them all day without having to worry about your hands getting cold. So if you're in need of a good pair of mittens for any activity, these leather mittens are the perfect choice.
6. Can I expedite the break-in process for these leather mittens?
The Give'r Classic Mittens are some of the best out there when it comes to performance and comfort. However, like with any new piece of gear, you’ll want to break them in before taking them out on the trail. This time and love will give you a final result you’ll be stoked on. However, we also understand that breaking in a good pair of mittens can take time. If you want to expedite the break-in process, try our Oven Method!
7. How can I make these leather mittens last as long as possible?
The key to making your Give'r Mittens last as long as possible is patience and proper storage. Start with taking the time to properly break them in to shape and form to your hands. Beyond normal use and break-in, make sure you don't excessively stretch the leather mittens out of shape — this will cause them to wear down more quickly. If you're not going to be using your leather mittens for an extended period of time, store them in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight to prevent the leather from cracking or drying out. (The wax coating is key to retaining the natural moisture of the leather, so know this is present from the jump!). With a little bit of patience and proper care, your leather gloves will last for years to come.
8. Why should I add initials to my Give'r Classic leather mittens?
Adding your initials to your Give'r Classic leather mittens can be a smart move for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it can help you easily identify your work mittens if you misplace them, whether you leave them on a popular hiking trail or on the job site. Once you have the best gloves that are just your style, you don't want to take a chance at losing them. Adding your initials can be a way to ensure that they don't get mixed up with anyone else's.
Furthermore, leather mittens can also provide a touch of personalization and style to your look. If you're someone who likes to make a personal statement with your clothing, adding your initials to a good pair of gloves can be a great way to do it. Not only will it make your mitts stand out, but it will also show that you put some thought into choosing them and take pride in your gear as you give'r each day!
