How can I use my Expedition Split Mittens?
The Expedition Split Mittens are built for extreme cold, long exposure, and hard use. They shine in conditions where staying warm matters more than anything else. Think snowmobiling, lift rides, winter work, shoveling, ice fishing, or standing around in sub-zero temps.
If you’re facing brutal cold and don’t want to sacrifice all dexterity, the split-finger design lets you grip, buckle, zip, and throttle without pulling them off. These are not everyday mild-winter gloves. They’re built for when winter is at its worst.
Which glove/mitten is best for me?
It comes down to warmth versus dexterity, and how extreme your conditions are.
-
Expedition Split Mittens - Our warmest and most protective handwear. Built for severe cold, long exposure, and harsh conditions where maximum warmth is non-negotiable, with better control than a traditional mitten.
-
Frontier Mittens - Extremely warm and fully waterproof, with a traditional mitten design. A great choice when warmth is the top priority and dexterity is less critical.
-
4-Season Gloves - The most versatile option. Fully waterproof with excellent dexterity and dependable warmth for active use, changing conditions, and everyday winter work.

The liner came out of my split mitten, what do I do?
This can happen because our lining is not sewn into the leather/waterproof membrane, as this would compromise the waterproof integrity. Here’s how to resolve the issue:
- Preheat your oven to 200°F.
- Remove your wrist leashes and place your mittens in the oven for 5 minutes. Ensure the black clips for connecting the mitts are pointing up and not resting on the oven shelf.
- Remove the split mittens and carefully pull the liner out completely.
- Insert your pointer fingers into its slot and your remaining fingers into the mitten portion, then push the liner back into the cuff using a fist and spread your fingers into their original leather slots.
- Wedge your fingers together and clench your hands a few times. This method mimics molding a heated ski boot footbed or a mouthguard.
Tip from the Tetons! When removing the gloves, especially during break in, pinch the mitten + index finger to keep the lining in place. It will become easier to take your hand in and out as you break in your split mittens.
